Cathy Fisher is culinary instructor at two health centers in Santa Rosa, California: the McDougall Program and TrueNorth Health, and the author of Straight Up Food: Delicious and Easy Plant-Based Cooking without Salt, Oil or Sugar. She has taught at the McDougall Program since 2006 and TrueNorth since 2010. She also gives classes at veg-related conferences and for private groups. Her recipe blog, StraightUpFood.com, was started in 2010 to offer her students more of gluten-, salt-, sugar- and oil-free plant-based recipes. It is now read by people from all corners of the globe who are seeking a more healthful way of eating. Cathy made a serious commitment in 1999 at age 32 to begin changing how she ate, and has continued to learn and fine-tune her diet in the years since. She has a certification in basic nutrition and is a self-taught chef, having learned on the job at both of the above centers, as well as put in countless hours in her own kitchen. Cathy takes every opportunity for professional development, including attending other vegan chefs’ cooking classes. She absolutely loves her work and is so thankful to be doing it.
