What is a Sustainable Diet ?

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations definition of sustainable diets are those diets that have low environmental impact and contribute to food and nutrition security and a healthy life for present and future generations. They have coined a sustainable diet as one that is “protective and respectful for biodiversity and ecosystems, culturally acceptable, accessible, economically fair and affordable; nutritionally adequate, safe and healthy; while optimizing natural and human resources.”

To us at Sustainble Diet, a sustainable diet is a long-lasting solution to multiple problems at the same time: the problem of how to create optimal human health while saving healthcare expenses, and the problem of how to adequately feed our growing global population while preserving biodiversity and habitat for all life forms.
