Here’s a basic burger that can be dressed up in many tastes and ethnicities. You can actually use most any beans, (pinto, butter, canellini, black…), so experiment as you get comfortable.
Ingredients:
A can of kidney, pinto or black beans, or 1 ½ cups cooked beans
½ cup rolled oats
½ cup cooked brown rice, quinoa or millet
2 T salsa OR ketchup OR BBQ sauce OR Worcester sauce – choose no added salt, vegan
spices of choice (chili, cumin, parsley, celery, Italian, pepper…)
Instructions:
Mash beans with a hand masher or a few pulses in the food processor
Add oats, rice/grain and seasoning sauce
Form patties and place on nonstick cookie sheet or use parchment paper
Grill or broil on each side until golden brown
This recipe makes 4 patties
